Let’s Talk About:

Motion Design for the Web

Forms of communication are quickly evolving. We're in an age where media consumption is exponentially increasing with streaming video and animated content.

Designers already use point, line, shape, form, color, and texture to communicate ideas...but what about the use of time?

Motion allows us to take design principles to a new level and communicate ideas over a period of time. However, we must always remember that design solves communication problems. Even with all the tools in our toolbelt, let’s make sure we’re solving the right communication problems through design.

Introduction to Web Animation

Community Thoughts on Motion Design for the Web...

  1. 1. Creating Usability with Motion: The UX in Motion Manifesto What most designers think of as ‘UI Animation’ is in fact the execution of a higher modality of design: the temporal behavior of interface objects during realtime and non-realtime events.
  2. 2. Designing for the Appearance of Speed An objective measure of performance ignores what truly matters: the customer journey.
  3. 3. Can a Triangle Really Be Angry? As humans, it’s common for us to anthropomorphize — or assign human traits and motivations to — animated objects. Taking this into account can help you design more effective UI animations.
  4. 4. Animating Anthropomorphism: Giving Minds To Geometric Shapes [Video] What that means is that the order in which actions occur is critical to the way we interpret motivations, intentions, and desires.
  5. 5. Cisco VNI Forecast and Methodology, 2015-2020 Internet video streaming and downloads are beginning to take a larger share of bandwidth and will grow to more than 80 percent of all consumer Internet traffic by 2020
