For creatives of all types, professional development and side projects are like exercise. The more you practice, the stronger you become in your skills and abilities. At Viget, we challenge ourselves to learn new skills and share with each other through articles, team discussions, and other professional development.
We even have an entire department dedicated to “pointless ideas” - a lab where we can let our creativity take the wheel and create projects that challenge us while making something interesting in the process. But what do you do when there isn’t time in the 9-5 for that? What can you do during those long projects that might not be the most engaging from a design or technology standpoint?
Below are some ideas on how can you grow as a creative outside of work, as well as some first-hand accounts of the positive impact that passion projects and professional development can have on your work.
