Stand Out: Four Ways to Make an Impact with your Internship Application
We want you to succeed at Viget and beyond. Here are four tips to get you started.
Our application window is now open for our 16th summer internship program which will take place in Boulder, Colorado, June 9th - August 15th, 2025. We hope to hear from curious, driven, and imaginative undergraduates who want to spend the summer working hard to transform themselves into early-career professionals. Our interns become members of our rich alumni network who have gone on to work with great organizations like Google, CapitalOne, VoxMedia, and even Viget!
Our internship program is a collaborative partnership between dedicated mentors, the entire Viget team, and the students who spend their summer gaining real world experience. We want you to succeed at Viget and beyond – wherever your success takes you. Here are four ways you can set yourself up for success as you prepare to apply:
Demonstrate your interest in us.
Thoroughly read all of the available documentation, position descriptions, FAQs, and dive deeper into our archives. This will help you get a better sense of who we are and will help you articulate why you would be a great fit. You can learn about us through our Flickr, Vimeo, and articles. We even have an entire section of our blog dedicated to our internship program.
Don’t use AI.
Listen, AI is a valuable tool and we have even leveraged it in our own work, but there is a difference between leveraging a tool to help you get started and submitting AI-produced content. Not only is it obvious and easy for us to dismiss, it shows a lack of interest in putting your unique, best foot forward. Real humans will read (and watch) your application – be sure to submit an authentic one.
Proofread (and watch) your application.
We recommend taking time preparing for and submitting your application. Draft your responses in a document, revise and proofread them, and make sure they reflect your best effort. Once they’re in good shape, paste them into the application form. This year, we are requiring applicants to submit a video application. In your video submission, we’re asking you to introduce yourself and tell us why you want to spend the summer as a Viget intern in ~2 minutes. Don’t submit your first recording. Practice, ask a friend or mentor for feedback, and be sure to share a working link.
Keep it simple.
Think of your application as a valuable step in gaining real world experience. As you work through your application, aim to be succinct and clear. From essay questions to your personal site URL, make it easy for us to understand and engage with your submission. Answer questions honestly, and if you have questions for us – ask.
Whether you are applying for our summer internship this year or bookmarking this article for the future, these tips will help you stand out. Take your time with your submission, proofreading along the way. Do your research and show us that you understand who we are and what we do. Help us understand who you are by writing about yourself authentically and honestly. And when you’re ready, apply! The application window for our 2025 cohort closes January 5th. We hope to hear from you.
