Happy Holidays. Let’s Make Something.
Viget is a digital agency and for a long time that meant we only made digital stuff. Software, apps, sites, and the like. Recently, a new trend has emerged: software is creeping its way into, well, everything. Adventurous companies like Viget are helping it creep by experimenting in various ways beyond the browser. Increasingly, we’re working away from the keyboard, making physical products that people interact with in entirely new ways—which is exciting because we love to make things.
If you follow Viget, you know that for a decade or more we’ve had a holiday tradition that embraces that love of making stuff. Every December we make—with our bare, but carefully washed hands—a simple gift to send to our friends that’s inspired by the circles in our logo. Usually you just eat it, like 2007’s VigetRocks or 2012’s Vigesauce. Sometimes, we ask you to do something like grow it, as in 2008’s Vigeturf, or color it like 2010’s Vigegram.
This year, you might be able to eat it (I wouldn’t recommend it); but, we are asking you to do something. To make something actually. With your own hands. While building software-powered, network-connected, possibly-sentient robots is a blast, there’s something very primal and calming about creating something out of the most basic material. We call it...Vige-Doh.
With Vige-Doh, we’re sharing our love of making things (and our love of retro 80’s playthings) by giving you the raw material to make whatever you’d like. It could be a snowman, a puppy, or miniature Washington Monument. If you also love old-school stop-motion claymation (like I do), might we suggest a short-film captured via Vine or Instagram? Be it a photo, video, or just a crusty statue on your desk, don’t forget to tag it #vigedoh.
We had fun making it for you. The Boulder office worked on the packaging design:
Durham made huge vats of Vige-Doh—over 30 pounds!
Our Falls Church office pulled everything together, production line-style.
Tonight, the first batch of Vige-Doh ships out, right on schedule. If you’d like your own batch, send your address and a description of what you plan to make to yo@vigedoh.com, and we’ll hook you up (while supplies last).
Happy Holidays, from all of us at Viget!
