This was a busy week for events at HQ! We hosted three events in as many days, starting with the Women in Technology (WIT)-sponsored Intersection of Marketing and Technology Lunch on Tuesday. The WIT event brought together four speakers and 60+ guests to discuss social media marketing and ever-evolving technologies.
The panel is pictured below from left to right: Jen Krupey (Viget Labs), Susan Kearney (Smith|Gifford), Brian Reed (Boxtone), moderator Katie Hanusik (SpeakerBox), and Matt Goddard (R2intergrated).
Jen's timely presentation, which she shared here on our marketing blog, touched on the recent Motrin blunder. Her take-away points -- discover, listen, and engage -- seemed to really resonate with the audience.
On Wednesday morning, the Middle School Marketing group had their November meeting over breakfast. Don't be confused by the name -- it's not a bunch of 8th graders talking about Myspace over Pop Tarts. Started this summer after a conversation with Lisa Throckmorton and the guys from our marketing team, MSM meets to discuss the intersection of old-school, traditional marketing and new-school online tactics. "We talked about creating communities and cultivating 'big ideas' that can be communicated clearly across a variety of outlets." Clearly, it was a rousing morning!
Finally, last night, RefreshDC met in our space to listen to Jason Cranford Teague's talk on web typography. I'm told that his list of Web Safe Fonts was particularly helpful for designers. We nearly packed the house with more than 100 attendees!
It's always great to be able to host events in our space. Up next? SMC-DC will hang out with us on December 10 with a talk from our good friend Justin Thorp. I just hope he dresses appropriately.
