First Hack Night a Success!

Patrick Reagan

We had about 10 people show up to Murky last night for a few hours of coding and conversation. Some ended up working on personal projects, others paired up to learn more about both the latest version of Passenger and JQuery. We finished up just in time to grab a few post-hack beers at Liberty Tavern across the street (not the coolest place, but it was close!).

We plan on doing this again soon. There's been talk of potentially moving it to Busboys & Poets in Shirlington, but Matt will post details about the next night as they're available.

Thanks to everyone who came out for making it a fun night!

Busboys & Poets is really nice, my new hangout for my last few weeks, and perfect for a few people, but 10 might be overkill.  Remember to bring an additional powerstrip because they are stingy with the outlets.  Oh, and their tubes need cleaning since the Interweb is pretty flaky at times.

I will definitely try to come text time.  It sounds like more fun than painting, which is what I did.

Wonder if Houston has anything like this ... sounds like a good time.

Kevin, I’m going to checkout Busboys & Poets and see if it would be a good fit.  If everything goes well, we’ll probably try to have hack night again in July.

There will be a blog post in the coming days that will have more information.

Patrick,
We have a growing group of VA suburban folks hacking on Saturday mornings out in Arlington at the Corner Bakery (although we may relocate soon).  You can read more here: http://groups.google.com/group/potomac-ruby-hackers.

Everyone is welcome.  We had 6 people come out our first day a couple of months ago and have been fluctuating between 3 and 6 since although our numbers seem to be growing (see the mailing list linked above).

We should join forces. ;-)

@Evan: Thanks for the info, I’m keeping tabs on the group and hope to make it out to a meeting. Matt’s currently looking for a decent venue in Arlington to host the next event, so keep an eye on the blog for an announcement.

I think that polymorphic_url(@commentable, :anchor => “comment_#{@comment.id}") should work. You can also refactor the “comment_#{@comment.id}” to a separated method, like dom_id, which returns the dom identifier of the comment.
